Tapau-Mania Campaign

Introduction

In 2008, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) implemented the White Coffin project to the delight of students who think it is about time we acknowledged the need to be more ecologically friendly. However, we are a culture that relies so heavily on polystyrene or Styrofoam that one day without the convenience of packing our food in disposable containers is viewed as an inconvenient hindrance. The popularity for us to reduce polystyrene consumption is extensively low and now is about time we acknowledged the need to be more environmental friendly.

Hence a sustainable implementation should be taken place. Tapau-Mania Campaign is an environmental sustainable campaign at the purpose to reduce the usage of polystyrene in campus. This pioneering project is implemented by Ecosystem Management Group, Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI).

The objectives are:

  1. Increase the student’s sense of understanding and love towards environment,
  2. Be able to identify the importance of implying solutions to reduce the environment impact,
  3. And reduce the usage of polystyrene in campus.

Our task during the campaign is to encourage the campus community to bring their own food container to “TAPAU” food from the cafeteria. Meanwhile, if you join as a volunteer, you will learn more about the environment and how to save it through lifetime experience and interacting with passionate people in the campus.
